RAMBLIN’ with Helen... |
Now that we’ve gone back to a monthly newsletter, the time to think about and write my “visit” with you most certainly does creep up fast! First, I, along with many of you have expressed the desire for a CD of the late Andy Pawlenko’s music – well folks, there is now one available! His daughter, Deanne Hubbard has compiled a CD of 14 songs her father taped for her, and he even included a joke! These are available for $12.00, by sending a check or money-order made payable to Deanne Hubbard, and send to 1060 Co. Rt. 85, Oswego, NY 13125. The money from the sales will be donated to the Charley and Mary Haney Cancer Giving Fund of Oswego County in Andy’s memory. His doctor is a part of the foundation and they help people with cancer that have no insurance. It has been a year since Andy left our presence, and I can’t think of a better gift to give yourself, or someone else, and it will help a cause I know Andy would want supported. My order is in the mail – send yours today! (I know there will be further promotion of this elsewhere in the newsletter, but had to mention it here too.) I emailed Deanne regarding the Memorial Golf Tournament, and she said she didn’t go this year – maybe next year, but her husband Tim reported everyone had fun, and the golfer’s reminisced about Andy, and they dedicated a plaque in his honor that can be found on a large stone under the flag on the course. She also sent me a photo of the tribute she and her husband put in the new cement on their front porch – a guitar, the apple heart (her Mom’s pin) and a quarter. The quarter is always asked about, and the answer is: “Dad always said Money comes to Money”, so it is there in hopes money will find them!
When Dora Tupper , a long-time member sent her renewal, she wrote a very nice letter expressing her disappointment of us not having our festival, along with the two festivals that were canceled in the north country. She hopes to make our annual Christmas Party in December, and would like to have Bruce Cutler bring some of his wife Connie’s CD’s, as she bought one last year, and would like to get some for gifts for this Christmas. I called Bruce, and he said Connie does have CD’s left, and they are $15.00, and he will ship them to you for that price. He said he doesn’t know if he can make the Christmas Party until he has the information on it, but would be glad to mail the CD’s to anyone who might like one – just sent a check or money-order for $15.00 to Bruce at: 422 Woodhill, Newark, NY. 14513...
Dora, like a lot of us wonders why we have less time for everything we wand to do now that we are retired – I don’t have the answer, and find myself wondering the same thing over and over. I was sorry not to be able to attend our Sept. meeting, but hear it was a good one, with lots of “jammers” present. I am sure elsewhere in this newsletter a report will be given by our president regarding decisions made, etc.
I was very sorry to hear that John Crouch had to resign from the board due to health reasons, and I sent him a “Thinking Of You” card from CNYBA. Also, Pete Carr made the decision to resign from the board due to being “burnt out” and is pursuing other interests in his life. Pete is a charter member, and to my knowledge, there hasn’t been a year that he wasn’t an officer or board member – 33 years of continuous service certainly entitles him to take a rest! Best of everything to you Pete and may you enjoy all of your future endeavors – whatever and wherever they take you.
While I was at Old Forge for our 2000 OES Club Reunion, two weeks ago, Bob and Donna Walter came to our motel and took me to their summer home for lunch. What gracious host and hostess they are, and I can fully understand why they like it there. THANKS folks for such a nice time. Donna has to have some surgery before they go south, so please keep her in your prayers
I was so thrilled to learn that my suggestion to our president to try a Bakeless Bake Sale for a fundraiser, resulted in donations of $781. being sent to our treasurer. A big thank-you to our website “master” Shirley Stevens for all the time she spends in keeping our website up-to-date, along with all the monthly up-dates for the mailing labels, etc., etc. It is a pleasure to work with her, and appreciate more than I can say her patience with my “illiterate compute knowledge”.
When Richard and Maureen Bartlett sent in their renewal, I learned that Dick is President of the Thousand Island Bluegrass Group, - congratulations Dick, and thanks for keeping your members informed of our activities, etc. Thanks to Betty Cranston for your kind words regarding my Ramblin’ on yours and Ed’s renewal – she also wrote they enjoy the whole newsletter and included 12 stamps for my use to mail back renewals.
Thanks also to the following members who included donations towards expenses in their renewal checks – Norman Fey, Dora Jean Tupper, Vernon and Olive Loucks and to Rosalyn Roberson for your SASE, they all help so much. WELCOME to a new member, Chuck Simmons, who joined at the Sept. meeting. After much thought, I have decided to continue doing the Ramblin’ and take membership renewals for awhile longer. It would be easier IF you would send them to me, BUT, you can give them to any officer or board member at our meetings and events, and they will get the information to me. In the future, if I feel this proves to be to confusing or information gets lost or note forwarded to me in a timely fashion, I shall let someone else who can attend all of our meetings and events take it over, as it is impossible for me to do so.
I’ve exhausted my supply of blank note cards, so of any of you have some you don’t use, I could make good use of them, to write my personal note to you when I send back your card and receipt. With the exception of the stamps that members sometimes include with their renewals, and SASE now and then, my donation to CNYBA is paying the postage to send my replies – a chance I truly enjoy sending to each of my bluegrass family members!
In the Sept. 11th edition of the Post Standard, there was a two page article in the Neighbors Section regarding the American Civil War Monument which has been built and will be dedicated on Sept. 19th and 20th in Waterloo, with the Bristol Mt. Bluegrass Band providing music. The chairman of the committee is our own member Caren Cleaveland, and her picture appeared on both pages. The committee started in July 2005 to raise $133,000 for the memorial that has stones in it from the 36 states that existed at the conclusion of the Civil War. Congratulations, Caren, for all of your hard work, and whenever we are going thru Waterloo and see this memorial, we will think fondly of you and your dear husband Perry, no stranger to any of us!
The Sept. 20th edition of the Post Standard had a long and interesting article regarding our former members Kathy Kellish and her husband Rick Harding and their Pompey farm that cultivates a “Little Bluegrass”. I know many of our members attend their weekly Sunday gatherings, and thanks to the pictures included with the article, I know what our long time members Helen and Henry Wells of Cuyler and Kathy look like! Kathy and Rick are to be commended for all the efforts they are putting forth to make their dreams come true. When they first started this venture, as editor, I had many articles regarding their efforts, and hope in a small way helped them on their way.
I know that many of you received an email from Joy Crouch telling of her up-date regarding her many health problems. I am sure she would want me to tell you that she thanks one and all for their cards, prayers, emails, etc. – they all mean so much to her. Joy has a very deep faith in prayer, so folks, keep her in yours, and Joy, I always do every night.
Well, folks, this is all the news I have for this visit, except to urge you to check your mailing labels, and renew your memberships – there are 33 that were due in Sept., and 16 now due in Oct., and sad to report we had to remove 9 that were due in June, July/Aug. REMEMBER – your dues are what pays for the postage and printing of this newsletter, and being able to “suffer” thru this Ramblin’ – send yours today and THANK YOU for doing so.
