RAMBLIN’ with Helen... |
Had a short note from George Reese when he sent his renewal, asking me to say “Hello” to all the folks that remember him and Mabel, and that he enjoys getting our newsletters monthly.
THANKS to Pete Carr, I was able to go to our March meeting. Due to our regular meeting Sunday for our April meeting falling on Easter, it was decided to move it to SUN., APRIL 19th . This will be our ANNUAL MEETING, with the election of officers. The nominating committee is to be commended for the slate of officers they have convinced to run. I urge all members possible, to make a special effort to attend, as a good showing will let them know we are there to support them. Perhaps Neil Shortslef will be coming to that meeting, and I can “bum” a ride, as Pete will be on his way home from Maryland that Sunday, after attending his “firs festival” of the season! Have a wonderful time Pete.
Plans for the “joint” picnic on Sun., June 14th with the MWBA are progressing, and sounds like a fun day – mark your calendar now, and plan to go.
To help offset the cost of our newsletter, Sharon Foultz is working on getting some1/8 th or ¼ page “ads”. If you know of someone in your area who might be interested, please contact Sharon at: 315-298-2016 or email her at: sherona70@yahoo.com .
The Showcase committee is hard at work arranging these events to be held in different locations. I urge you to support them as this is one of our best ways to serve our purpose – “to preserve and promote bluegrass and old-time country music”.
The “jamming” music prior and following our meeting was excellent, and one of the residents, who has a beautiful voice, entertained us with several songs. Joy Crouch and Sharon Foultz furnished delicious “lunch” items for all to enjoy. Also, Anna and Bill Brosseau , do an excellent job as “host and hostess with the mostness” making coffee, serving donuts, etc. all thru the day – THANKS to all of these people.
Speaking of Joy, she and Ray have recently went to the home of Mark Sostrin, and recorded a CD for their grandchildren to enjoy in the future. She let me borrow one to listen to, and what a super job both of them did on several songs we all love to hear them sing. I told her the only thing lacking, was a duet, but I'm not sure they ever do that. Unfortunately, due to some of the songs recorded not being original ones, these CD's aren't available for us to purchase. However, how fortunate their grandchildren are to have this CD to listen to and cherish forever.
WELCOME to our new members: Ingersol Family Band, Williamstown, NY; Gordon Nodine and Eleanor Phillips, Hannibal, NY; Emil and Barbara Tulik, Fulton, NY; Arthur Wright Family, Martville, NY; A.J. Noto & String Theary, Rochester, NY; and Robert Sykes, Elbridge, NY. Due to all that Robert Sykes had done for CNYBA, he has been receiving a complimentary newsletter for a long time, but he decided he would like to be a “voting member” so sent his application for a senior membership; and we're all glad to welcome him.
The following members sent an additional donation when they sent their renewals: George Reese; Robert Sykes; Robert Wright; James C. Hartman – a big THANK YOU to each of you, and assure you it all helps so much towards our newsletter expenses, which will increase with the postage increase in May! PLEASE CHECK YOUR LABEL, and if your renewal date is circled in color, take a minute and send me your renewal, along with any news you'd like to share – otherwise , the Ramblin', like some well-known newspapers, will become a “thing of the past”.
Until our next visit, here is a helpful hint: When you get a splinter, reach for the cellophane tape, before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the cellophane tape over the splinter, and then pull it off. The tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
