HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!
I had a phone call from Trixie and Dale Troup after they had returned home from our Jam session on Sunday the 26th. They said that there was a nice group of people there and that the music was most enjoyable. The weather wasnít very good, but they made it home safely. Also heard that Farmer and Nancy Brown were there with pictures and cards.
Did your favorite team win the Super Bowl? Good game.
The deadline for sending information to me for the newsletter is the 4th Friday of every month. Thanks

.................................................Ramblin' with Helen By Helen Weldon
As I sit here writing the "Ramblin" on the very COLD, FROSTY morning of Thurs., Jan. 23rd, I think to myself, boy what a winter we have had so far! I donít know about you, but Iím more than ready for our January thaw that will last right thru to spring. Knowing that isnít going to happen, I hope each of you have "weathered" the storms and you "Snowbirds" - how lucky you are!!
I received a couple of Christmas Cards from members too late to include the messages written in my January visit, so will share them with you now. Bert and Alice Mehlenbacher are both fine, expressed their hopes that Thayle would respond to treatment and that they saw Gilly Rowe at a festival. He was with a cousin and seemed to be doing good. Peg Vogel wanted to be remembered to all and said her legs just won't let her dance anymore, but if she ever gets well, she will go back to dancing.
Norm and Nada Hasman are back in Sun City, AZ until the middle of May when they will return to Rochester until the middle of Sept. to see and visit their 14 grandchildren. We also know that will include taking in our Apple Valley Bluegrass Festival on August 1-3.
Speaking of grandchildren, I had an email from Maria Revutsky saying she was sending their renewal and the reason for the delay in doing so was because she and Andy were grandparents for the second time and had gone to France during the holidays to visit their daughter. Congratulations to all, and so glad you were able to go to France.
The wife of Bill Light, our very capable secretary, lost her father during the holidays and our sincere sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with you both, Bill.
Along the same line, Vernon Loucks lost a sister-in-law since our last visit, and both Vernon and Olive felt they needed to "entertain some sort of flu bug". That I don't agree with, but folks we just don't have that choice. Our thoughts and prayers are always with this special couple.
Joyce Rafferty emailed me that Dusty Bevins and family are planning a festival in August in Chilson. Watch our newsletter for details, and we wish you the best on this endeavor.
I had a nice visit with Pat Russell who called to thank me for the card I sent Harold from the CNYBA; and when I got their renewal it was changed to a family one, so WELCOME Pat as a member.
I received an email from Joy Crouch with the following wonderful message: "On Jan 4th I had blood work and a bone marrow test and the results showed NO LUKEMIA had returned." I know Joy was concerned as at the Christmas Party she told me she was again feeling so tired and weak. The doctors told her she can expect these ups and downs, but now she knows it doesnít always mean bad news. We are all so happy for you Joy and will keep you in your prayers.
I wish I could tell you that Thayle is doing much better but that is not how it is just yet. She is through radiation and has had two infusion treatments but due to a new medical problem hasnít been able to take some of her medication. I talked with her last night (1-22) and she had been to the doctor that day and hopefully the new medication will enable her to be more comfortable. Please keep those cards, notes of encouragement and prayers going her way as I know they do help.
Ellis Bradford, a long-time member who lives in Pendleton, SC sent Thayle a nice email message which included a message for me. I received a copy and thanks for your kind words regarding my efforts. I do try. Sam Murphy was scheduled for gall bladder surgery and when the time came it turned our to be much more extensive than expected. Sam is home and recovering now but some get-well wishes would be appreciated, Iím sure: 13 Main St., Marcellus, NY, 13108.
My holidays were very quiet due to bad weather and were saddened by my twin sister, Ruth, being taken to the hospital in a comma. Thankfully she came our of it on 1/9 and started talking on 1/10. She was diagnosed with infectious spinal menengitis and has been left with limited use of her right arm, capability to walk and hesitation in speech. Please keep her in your prayers. Kansas is a long way to be separated and being identical twins, we have always sensed when either of us were ill; something I knew when I didn't get a phone call on my birthday.
At our Jan 12th meeting a discussion was had regarding the possibility of raising our yearly dues. I for one, along with several others were not in favor of this. As we all know the postage rates have gone up and this of course increases the cost of mailing our newsletters. It was suggested that a possibility for cutting costs would be to only publish a newsletter every two months, but here too several felt the possibility of advertising events, etc. would be missed by doing so. During the year many of you have sent a SASE for me to return your dues card, sent an additional donation, or book of stamps. Each of these helped tremendously so keep them coming. A suggestion was made that perhaps during the year when you renew your membership , or just want to help, send some stamps (even 11 would mail your newsletter for a year) which will cut down the newsletter publishing costs. Thanks to those who have sent stamps. I haven't had to ask Pete for postage money since last Sept., and have enough on hand for some time to come. This is just a suggestion, not a must, but give it some serious thought. There was also a discussion regarding sponsoring benefits for deserving members and more details will be forthcoming after further discussion. Hope to see many of you in Cato at the Feb 9th meeting and hope the weather will cooperate so Bob, Dick and I can finish revision of our bylaws.
Well folks, this has resulted in a much longer "visit" than I thought, but when I get stated, sometimes I donít know when to "shut-up" so will do so now. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to EACH OF YOU and until next time, remember - Itís not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you live.
Helen
