RAMBLIN’ with Helen... |
Now that the Ron/Nancy OneSong program is history, I have no excuse to delay our visit any longer. It was a great show, good food, good fellowship enjoyed by 99 people, and a great climax to the Thanksgiving weekend. Chuck Foultz was the lucky 50/50 raffle winner. It was wonderful that Vernon and Olive Loucks were able to be there, and hopefully will be at our Christmas Party on Dec. 3rd. Betty Humphrey, a longtime member was also there, and it was so good to see you Betty.
When Anna Brasseau sent her renewal, she sent a note saying they were going to come to the Ron/Nancy OneSong show and also planning on attending for the first time our Christmas party, and needed directions to the VFW. They came, introduced themselves, as I had never met them, so now can put a face with Anna when she sends her renewals. Thanks for your kind words Anna.
Along with Cora Sturge’s renewal was a note telling me that she had a total right hip replacement on Sept. 18th, and folks, she is walking with out the aid of a cane already!! She, along with several other members entertained us between sets at Sunday’s show.
Since I hadn’t heard anything lately about Mary Anne Burns, I inquired about her from Marion LaMont, who told me that they brought her home for Thanksgiving, but due to the amount of care she needs, she is at St. Camillus Health and Rehab Center, 813 Fay Rd., Syracuse, NY 13219. I know she would enjoy cards, and please keep her and Jack in your prayers.
A big THANK YOU to Ed Campbell for the bag of cards he brought – won’t ever have to buy another birthday card! There were also “Thinking Of You” and Get Well cards which will most certainly be used. I know I’ve been neglecting my “card sending” this past month, but will get back in the “groove” real soon.
THANK YOU to Carol Beckwith for sending me the correct hours for Dee’s Bluegrass Jamboree Radio Show on Sunday morning, 6:30 – 10 on WSCP. I had to call Dee, as her Nov. newsletter was returned due to the forwarding address time had expired, and Dee thought she had sent me both changes, but I had never received them, so don’t ever hesitate to send me a change.
FOLKS, IT IS TIME TO ONCE AGAIN REMIND YOU THAT you don’t have to cut up your newsletter to included a filled-in application with your renewal. If there are no address, phone or email address changes, just send your check, and if there are changes, just send them on a piece of paper as I have all the needed information in my card file.
While on the subject of the newsletter, thanks to Lori Thompson, Charlotte Noftsier and John Hornyak for your kind words regarding the Ramblin’ visit. To John and Maryan VanDusen, John Hornyak, Charlotte Noftsier, Janet Darroy, Chellis Chave and Norm Hasman – thanks for your donations of money or stamps to help with postage expenses. Cora Sturge, your SSAE saved a stamp! Kevin Tobin renewed for 5 years – thanks for your faith in our association.
A very special THANK YOU to Bert Mehlenbacher for your most generous check for postage. Along with the check, he also wrote regarding the fact that Alice is in the Wesley Gardens Nursing Home, 3 Upton Pk., Rochester, NY 14607 and won’t be going to Florida this year. The broken hip, broken leg and being confined to a wheel chair has taken its toll, and her mental health is not good, and will probably never be able to return to her home. As he said, after 63 years of marriage, it’s a hard fact to accept. He wished everyone a good winter, and God willing, will see us in the spring. Bert, our thoughts and prayers are with you both, and I passed on the band suggestion and information to the “powers that be”.
When Janet Darrow sent her renewal, she asked me to mention the following: On August 12th of this year a number of the Marcellus Apple Pickers gave up a Saturday to ply and sing during the Towpath Days at the Sims’s Erie Canal Park in Camillus. It was greatly appreciated and everyone enjoyed their fine music, which really added to the day. THANKS EVERYONE!
In the Southern Tier’s November newsletter, editor Joyce Bialkowski mentioned that Dean and Joanne Bartholmew went to a festival in Arcadia, Md. And that Joanne’s knee surgery was successful and she is doing well. So glad to hear that Joanne.
Long time member, Carol McGinley needs to be remembered with some “Thinking Of You” cards or a note. The first part of Sept. she was let go from her job because her shoulder would no longer let her really keep up with all her duties. This was very hard to take after 40 some years of working. She was scheduled to have some surgery on the 24th of November, and Carol, we pray it went ok. She really misses getting out for jam sessions and hopes in the near future to be able to do so, God and weather permitting. Carol plays guitar, sings, and has entertained us many times between sets at our jamborees, etc. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT and send Carol a card or note to: 311 Chestnut St., Fulton, NY 13069-2704 as it will help brighten those long days for her.
ANDY PAWLENKO IS HOME-----he was able to return to his own home on Mon., Nov. 20th, just in time for Thanksgiving. As his sister Mary said, “he is a fighter” and feels certain he will continue to improve with time, and therapy. We are all so happy for you Andy, and I know he would still like to get mail at: 1092 County Rte. 85, Oswego, NY 13126 or a phone call to: 315-564-5231. Andy, I still have jokes printed off, so you will be hearing from me.
This will be the first time that Norm and Nada Hasman will not be attending our Annual Christmas Party as they don’t arrive in Rochester from Arizona until Tues., Dec. 5th. You both will be missed. He asked me to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and have a great time at the party. They enjoy the Ramblin’ as it is the only way to keep up with our CNYBA people, and he especially enjoyed the article on Peter Hoysic.
I received a nice note and some cards to use from Emma Teachout this past week. She enjoys the newsletter and thanks those who have sent her cards. They keep her busy most of the time, and her family is so good about visiting her. Fortunately, she has avoided this terrible “virus bug” so far, but Loren and his wife have “entertained “ it twice! That’s not fair folks, and hope you both are feeling ok now. They have moved her roommate, so right now she is alone. Her letter ended with wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and Merry Christmas from Emma and Rex. (I know she would love to get mail at: Buckley Landing, #411A, 7430 Buckley Rd., N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
WELCOME to new members Verna & William Bradish, Ken & Lee Alger and Richard Albro who graduated from Cato-Meridian, the same school I did. It was nice visiting with you Richard, and yes, we sure do miss your Mom, who lived at the complex where I live. Richard joined at the Ron/Nancy OneSong show on Sunday.
My Thanksgiving weekend was a busy one with my oldest granddaughter, her husband and two adorable boys, Andrew who is 7, and Matthew who is 3 visiting from Wed. evening until Sat. morning. Friday, we went to Strong Memorial in Rochester to visit her brother, (my only grandson who is 31) who had a liver transplant on Nov. 17th. THANKS to those of you who knew about this for your prayers and concerns, and I am asking all of you to keep him in your prayers that there will be no rejection. He came home Sunday, and talked to him before writing the Ramblin’ (Tues. 11/28th), and he says he is doing ok. He has a long recovery time ahead, and pray the new lease on life he was given will prove to be a long one. I will give you a report on our Annual Christmas Party in the January newsletter, and hope many of you will send me some news, etc. along with your renewals, so we can have another good visit.
I’m sure you all have had enough of my Ramblin’ for this year, so will close by wishing each of you a HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON, and may 2007 find our CNYBA growing in memberships, and working together to promote our music. THERE WILL BE A MEETING IN CATO on JANUARY 14th – the new boiler is in and working just fine. SEE YOU THERE.
