THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!
The Apple Festival people and CNYBA, through liaison Ed Campbell made an agreement if CNYBA would help them with various things for their Aple Festival, then we would have the money we paid them for rent and electric for our 2001 festival, returned. Before the Apple Festival took place, Ed Campbell and John VanDusen entirely rebuilt a bathroom and entry room adjacent to the bathroom. Bob Hayden and Bill Light coordinated gate workers and musicians to entertain. On Saturday, October 6, in the wind and the rain and the cold, 15 members/friends showed up to work the 6 gate buildings to sell tickets and welcome people to the festival. They were: Sue Hayden, Dale Wilcox, Frank Howlett, Mary Anne Burns, Jack Burns, Marion LaMont, Tina Schuyler, Pat Russell, Harold Russell, Peg Nolan, Joe Nolan, Betsy Keough, Donna Light, Pat Spears and Cathy Campbell. In the quonset, many musicians showed up to present some fabuous music with the sound provided by Ray Crouch (who also assiste! d on bass) and with Vernon Loucks emceeing. The musicians entertaining were: Peter Carr playing mandolin, Martin Lovell on bass, Mike Brashear on vocals and guitar, Bill Light on vocals and guitar, Maurice Lovell on vocals and mandolin, Frank C. on vocals and guitar, Jason Johnson on vocals, banjo and mandolin, Torke Sekse on guitar, Joe (from Mass.) On fiddle, Carl and Suzanne Stump on vocals and guitar. What a fantastic show they put on and what a rousing response they received from theaudience.
On Sunday, October 7, another cool but beautiful fall day, another group of fine musicians showed up to entertain starting out with an
inspiring Gospel Hour and then followed by several outstanding presentations. The entertainers were: Maurice and Martin Lovell on
mandolin, vocals and bass; Mike Brashear on guitar and vocals, Bea Bouthilette on fiddle, Ray Crouch on Bass, Jacqui McCarthy on guitar and vocals. After the cloggers performed, Sherry (a fantastic 14 year old fiddler and singer) joined the musicians credited above. Later joining in were Ed Campbell on bass, Ron on guitar and vocals, Eric Rees on guitar and vocals and Joe (fiddler from Mass.). The finale, song, Y,all Come" was stimulating and the audience spontaneously joined in. Also Bob Hayden graciously worked the gates on Sunday. These two days would not have happened if it hadn,t been for people comeing out to support their organization. With all the supportive
members that CNYBA has had in past and present undertakings we should GROW and GROW and GROW! Again, thanks to all who helped us GROW.
.................................................Ramblin' with Helen By Helen Weldon
By the time you read this all the "Little and Big Ghosts and Goblins" will have made their visits. I hope each of you enjoyed Halloween and got lots more treats than tricks. Also, if the weather forecasts hold true the "Frost will have definitely been on the Pumpkins" by now,
along with that "white stuff" too.Our association lost another dear friend and supporter when Betty Hall, wife of our member George Hall passed away on Wed., Oct 10th.
Besides her husband, she was survived by 4 daughters, 1 son, 4 brothers, 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Memorial
services were held on Sunday Oct. 14 at the Cato Union Church with burial at the Cato Union Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to
Polycystic Kidney Disease Research, 4901 Main St., Suite 2000, Kansas City MO, 64112-2634. I,m sure expressions of sympathy to George and family at 2240 Ira Station Rd., Cato, NY 13033 would be greatly appreciated. Personally, I have known the Halls for over 45 years they were our landlords at one time, and Betty took care of our 2 daughters for several years. Betty was a nurse and her caring
compassionate ways have touched so many lives of both young and old. Her family was her life and one of her favorite pastimes in her later years was working in her beautiful flower ! garden. The Good Lord now has one of the "best" in his heavenly garden. May you rest in peace, Betty. You certainly have earned it.I received a note from Duke Dubler,s Mom telling me that he can finally "see light at the end of the tunnel" with his recovery. He can now take mostly solid food and the feeding tube can be removed at the end of October. He is walking and exercising to build up his strength and hopes to return to work the end of November. As she says Miracles do happen and thanked us again for our prayers and concern.
I,m sure many of you know Mary Phillips and Andy Pawlenko,s sister Tilly, as she and her husband have attended many of our everts and festivals over the years. Tillie (Pawlenko) and John Kostoroski celebrated their 50th Anniversary on July 21st at the D A Lodge in
Oswego. Attending the party was Mary (Pawlenko) Phillips and Andy Pawlenko, members of the wedding party. Both of them enjoy polka dancing, traveling and attending bluegrass festivals.A big thank you to Sarah and Dale Lyndaker and Richard Ryczek for their most generous donations toward expenses when they sent in their renewals: and to those who send SASE,s to return their dues cards to them. As I always say "Every little bit helps."
During one of my phone calls to Mary Carr recently, she told me about her "entertaining a case of hives". Mary we hope they have left by
now and we,re all thinking of you.Our friend and long-time member George Reese had a stroke and is recovering at home. Please remember him in your prayers and a card
sent to 410 Meadowbrook Circle, Fulton, NY 13069 would bring pleasure to his day.In last month,s Ramblin, I told you about our member Socrates Nellis telling me about his writing of his World War 11 memories. He sent me a copy but feels no one would be interested in hearing about them. Folks, I found then interesting and many humorous ones included. I need to know whether you,d enjoy having me share them with you all over a period of time in my Ramblin,. If you do, please let me know by phone (315-626-2603) or email: helwel80@hotmail.com. Or through a note in the mail. You know folks, sometimes (and I,m sure it shows), I have a hard time thinking of interesting things to write about, so this would help, but will depend on the response whether I use them or not. Regardless of outcome, Socrates, they are very interesting. I enjoyed reading them and thank you for sharing them with me.
A very well-attended and productive festival meeting was held at the Rec. room here at the senior complex where I live on October 23 and
several details will be found elsewhere in the newsletter. It was so good to see all of you it has been a long time.Hopefully I,ll see you all at our Nov. 11th meeting in Cato. It is very evident that our new officers are working very hard to make our
association thrive and grow and I urge one and all to get behind them with your support and attendance at our meetings, Jamborees and of
course our 2002 festival.A very "Happy Thanksgiving" to each of you and mey it be spent with loved ones. With the world situation as it is, live each day to the
fullest as no one knows what tomorrow will bring. Also, get your Christmas Party reservations in as it sounds like a super time is in store for one and all.
Until next time, remember: the largest room in the world is the roomfor improvement; something we all need to strive to accomplish. -

Our bi-monthly jamboree held on October 28, 2001 at the VFW Bingo Hall in Canastota was well attended and enjoyed by all. Joe LaMay and Sherri Reese with Genesee Rose portrayed their usual "homespun original" tunes plus well-recognized music which brought much
pleasure to all. Crooked Brook balanced the program with some spine-tingling traditional bluegrass tunes. Thank you to all who made this day possible.Sue Hayden still has some blocks for anyone interested in "creating a block" for our own quilt which will be raffled off at our 2002 festival. She will have blocks available to you at our meeting or at the jam session in Marcellus. The finished blocks must be returned by
February 1 to Sue Hayden, 4601 Limeledge Road, Marcellus, NY or call 315-673-1313 with questions. Let,s make a memorable quilt!!Bill and Donna Light wish to thank the Association and the Legion Hall in Marcellus for the donation given to them in memory of Donna,s cousin Richard Salinardi who was killed in the September 11 WTC attack.
