October 2007
RAMBLIN’ with Helen...

Fall is here, and hope all of you have had the same beautiful weather that has been here – bright, warm sunny days with a breeze and cool nights making for good sleeping! Believe me, I'm enjoying each one as know and dread what is just around the corner.

Our Sept 9th meeting found the sidelines filled (like it used to be), and as expected, it was voted to move our meeting to The Canton Woods Senior Center, 76 Canton St., Baldwinsville, NY. President DeForge presented several items discussed at the board meeting, and decisions on some will be made at the Oct. 14 th meeting. In order to have a 2008 Apple Valley Festival, it is imperative to cut our operating costs, and hold some fund raisers.

One of the items discussed was to send the newsletter via email to all who have a computer, and possibly only doing so quarterly. Those members who don't have access to a computer will continue to receive theirs by mail. Pros and cons were discussed and it was decided to look into it further before a decision was made. If any of you have thoughts about this, please make them known to any officer or board member, whose names, phone numbers and email addresses are on the first page of the newsletter.

Speaking of email – my apologies to our President and Secretary for having the wrong email address in last month's newsletter – they are correct now. Brenda Wrench has had back surgery since our last visit, and glad to report she is doing very well.

CONGRATULATIONS to Chuck Foultz who was a TV star on Channel 9 (Syracuse) one night this past week, when they did a nice story regarding his stained glass fiddle. I sent an email re. the show, and he told me he's been contacted by two magazines who want to do an article regarding the fiddle.

Longtime member, Soc Nellis wrote his usual interesting letter with his renewal, which also included a SASE and a book of stamps . Thanks for both Soc. He also wrote that he had cataract surgery, but due to glaucoma, had some complications the next day, resulting in not being able to even read the big E at the top of the chart. After his doctor pricked something in his eye the pressure went down, and he can now see much better.

Speaking of renewals, folks, I'm still watching for renewals from 24 that were due in Sept., and there are now 17 due in Oct. PLEASE check your label and if circled in red, take a minute and send it – in order to keep CNYBA alive, we need the support of every one of you.

I received a beautiful THANK YOU CARD from Joanne and Dean Bartholomew that reads: Dear CNYBA Members – “This note of gratitude is sent especially to express the warmest thanks to you all for your thoughtfulness – what a surprise it was to receive the plaque given in memory of Bud Artlip. You are all very special to Dean and I.” Thanks again, signed Joanne and Dean.

Had an email from Donna Walter saying they saw Jessica Mary Buck at the Fox Family Festival and hasn't changed a bit. On the Sat. night of the festival, returning home about midnight, while getting out of the car to unlock the door and turn on a light, they heard the most horrible noise coming from the back of their garage, so they got back into the car, and after a bit it quieted down, they went into the house, but the noise started again, even worse than before. Donna called the police, and it was decided the noise was probably a bear walking on some aluminum siding lying out in back of the garage. The policeman went behind the garage and after shining his light all around said – “Well you had a bear, and there is good and bad news. The good news is he is gone, but so is the side of your garage. He ripped the side off, and literally threw everything in there around – leaving it looking like a bulldozer had gone through it! Donna says it will take a month or so to haul everything out and rebuild the back of the garage. To add insult to injury, this was two nights after a bat flew over her head three times, and a chipmunk had scooted in the day before when she opened the door. Both have decided wildlife is no longer welcome at the Walter's camp!

It was so wonderful to see Ray Crouch looking so much better at the Sept. meeting. Have kept in contact with them, and he is still doing pretty good, but the last blood work showed he is not producing new blood cells like the doctor had hoped he would. Please keep him in your prayers.

WELCOME to new members George and Marianne Nero; Mike and Kay VonSneidern; Kathy Kinney and Keith Baker. THANKS to Mr. & Mrs. Bob Purple; Stuart Johnson; Richard Ryczek (so generous); and Norm and Otilla Fey for your extra contributions included with your renewals, and to Betty Cranston for the book of stamps. All are appreciated so much, as are the many kind words regarding the fine looking newsletter.

At our Sept. meeting I was so pleased to have the officers, board members and members present vote to accept my nomination of Ed & Cathy Campbell, Ray and Joy Crouch and John and Maryan VanDusen as Honorary Members of CNYBA. , and have received a nice thank-you from the Campbells.

In closing my visit, I ask you to please consider sending a donation to help defray the expenses of the Memorial Service for our dear departed Andy Pawlenko. WE ALL OWE ANDY BIG-TIME for all he and his band did for CNYBA. I regret I won't be able to attend, as my ride to our Grand Chapter Session for OES in Saratoga , NY . leaves early that morning, but my thoughts will be there and my donation in the mail. PLEASE SEND YOURS, and thanks so much from me.

Helen
