A happy, healthy and prosperous NEW YEAR to one and all from the Officers, Board, Sunshine Lady and the Editor.

Thank you very much to Helen Weldon and her daughter Betty Jane for doing the newsletter for me in December. Without YOU there would have been no newsletter. Your efforts were truly appreciated and you did a super job!

Also, thank you to everyone at our Christmas Party who took time from their festivities to write me an encouraging note on their name cards - and thanks to John and Maryan Van Dusen for delivering the name cards and a "special dish" to me after the party. All your thoughtfulness is more than words can express.

Thank you to Sue and Bob Hayden for the beautiful poinsettia plant and the loan of their wheel chair - I will try very hard to live up to my part of the bargain.

I understand that, once again, we had a very successful Christmas Party which was well attended by many happy and satisfied members and friends. Andy Alexander and his group "Seneca County Bluegrass" and the "No name Bluegrass Band" did a super job playing and the food was delicious and everyone had their fill.

To the people who were kind enough to send me their email address for our newsletter - it isn't going to work out without a lot of complications so we decided against it.

WELCOME TO:

Once again our well attended Christmas Party was a huge success!! The music was fantastic and well presented by all the superb musicians and the food was delicious. Our centerpieces certainly represented the holiday theme and tasted delicious as well. Thank you to everyone !!

My personal thanks to Helen Weldon for coming to my rescue last month by doing the newsletter and taking charge of the reservations for our Christmas Party. Your efforts were deeply appreciated, my Dear friend.

Also thank you to all my "bluegrass family" for taking time from their party to write me such wonderful, encouraging notes on their name tags for me. I am sure all those wonderful prayers will definitely be answered. Also, thanks to John and Maryan VanDusen for their surprise visit and surprise delivery. What a wonderful, caring bluegrass family I have. Thanks also for all the beautiful greeting cards that I have been receiving from special friends.

God Bless you all. Thayle

Ramblin' with Helen By Helen Weldon

Due to the Holiday and shortened work week for the printers, etc, I'm writing this on Monday the 23rd. Soon another Christmas will be gone and my prayer is that each of you in your own way had a wonderful day. Following a week later will be the beginning of New Year - 2003, and may it be a healthy, prosperous and happy one for you and yours. I know you all join me in prayer that it will indeed be a much more "healthy" one for many of our members: Thayle Phair, Peter Hoysic, Mary Carr, Olive Loucks, Jim Sawtell, Joy Crouch and Bibiane Bouthelette to name just a few. There are probably others that I'm not aware of and folks you are included on our thoughts and prayers also.

On a definite "up-neat" note, had a phone call (left on my answering machine) from Homer Reynolds saying he has passed his latest heart check-up with "flying colors" with no blockages. Way to go Homer!! And keep on doing whatever you are as it must be right.

Doris Bruce called and told me about the passing of Farmer Brown's Mother, and expressions of sympathy were sent to Farmer and Nancy.

Five years ago, long-time members Bradley and Marjorie Kuhl renewed their membership for five years and a couple of weeks ago I received a letter from them with a check enclosed for $200 - 10 years renewal as a family membership and a $60 donation to further our efforts. Folks, with that confidence and support, we all must put forth our best efforts To continue to grow and a big THANK-YOU to you both.

When Joyce Rafferty renewed hers' and Dusty Bevin's (she always gives it as a gift to him each year as a gift) memberships, she wrote that Dusty is pretty good and keeping busy by making a dobro for his son David. Best wishes to you Dusty for continued good health, and keep playing "our music".

Thank-YOU's are due to Bonnie Wilson for her monetary donation when she renewed and to Lois Artlip for the Roll of Stamps she gave me at the Christmas Party. It was good to see that some folks took my suggestion and gave one year memberships as gifts - Vernon and Olive Loucks gave one, and Sam and Nancy Anderson gave 2 family ones. You know, a gift membership would be a good birthday, anniversary or other special event gift. Think about it.

Speaking of our Party, it was very successful with 110 enjoying the delicious buffet and good music by both bands. Once again Thayle Phair (3 years in a row) was unable to attend, but all were aware of her clever handiwork on the table favors that were completed by "yours truly". Many removed their little angels and sent back encouraging words on the cards, along with a food donation from the owners, that were delivered to Thayle later that evening by John and Maryan VanDusen. Others missed were Mary Carr and Peter Hoysic with his family. He had sent in 15 reservations, but due to some necessary surgery, had to cancel as the family didn't want to come without him, and the Dr. felt that it was best for him not to attempt not to come. We always look forward to his "red Wig" and his family "musical" entertainment. I'm sure you are already booked for 2003, Peter, so keep practicing!!

To all of you who were so prompt at renewing after receiving your "highlighted" newsletters - Thanks. Thayle called me on Sun., the 22nd to say that she has been working at the computer and we now have exactly 300 addresses that we mail newsletters to! Her daughter has moved the computer into a room next to her bedroom so she has a much shorter way to go, and is going to do the newsletter as long as she feels up to it. She has had 5 radiation treatments and has 9 more to go - one each day. Keep her in your prayers.

I enjoyed doing the Dec. newsletter (was a breeze with my daughter doing all the typing and computer work), but Thayle, I assure you my offer for ONLY a "part-time" fill-in stands!!

Thanks to Betty Jame Windhausen, and Nanette and E. Allen Jackson for your kind words regarding my efforts incluced with your renewals. The Jackson's also expressed how much they both love bluegrass and all the jam sessions they've attended.

Speaking of that - I hope all who can will come to Cato on Sunday, Jan. 26th, 1-5 PM for the JAM SESSION. If the music and food (and I hear through the grapevine that they are) are as good as they were in Nov., you couldn't enjoy an afternoon any cheaper. See you there.

Be sure and watch your FEB. newsletter as am sure there is going to be a very important event announced and I hope each will make a Special Effort to Attend and/or support. It may be mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter also.

Lastly, I'd like to thank Maryann and Harold Ferguson, Ray and Joy Crouch and John Wilmot for offering to see that I had a way to the Christmas Party. I took John up on his offer as Port Byron was so much closer than Sodus and Central Square are. The Wards also called and offered to come this way again this year but already had made arrangements. It sure means a lot to know There are so many who care enough to want me there. I've always said our BLUEGRASS MEMBERS are FAMILY and being a charter member, I speak from experience. THANKS, JOHN. See you in Cato on Jan. 26th and Sunday, Feb. 9th. and until our next visit remember - on the same night, do not take a sleeping pill and a laxative before going to bed!

Helen
