THAYLE'S “MEMORY” FUND
Wouldn't you like to have an opportunity to show your appreciation for all that our beloved Thayle did for our C.N.Y.B.A.? Well, YOU CAN …Our president, Bob Hayden, has given me the privilege of being in charge of this endeavor, and I'm once again asking for your fullest cooperation from ALL OF YOU . As was told in our May newsletter, the club's share of the 50/50 Raffles taken at our 6 th Annual Apple Valley Bluegrass Festival, July 28 th through August 1 st will be given to her daughter Roberta to help with expenses. I know many of you will be there, BUT I also know many of our members won't be able to attend, and YOU ARE THE ONES I'm counting on to help this effort be a huge success. PLEASE take a moment, and send a donation to ME . (Checks can be made out to C.N.Y.B.A., but please mark the left-hand memo line—Thayle's Fund.) I will keep a record of all donations and give the checks to Pete for deposit. I've already received $60 for a start—so let's see it GROW and GROW and GROW !
MARYAN VanDUSEN has donated a handmade WHITE AFGHAN (54x60) to be raffled off, with the proceeds going to THAYLE's MEMORY FUND . Tickets will be available at one of C.N.Y.B.A.'s tables at our festival. Please be sure and stop by and get yours! THANKS Maryan for this most gracious donation to a worthy cause.
Ramblin' with Helen
by Helen Weldon
I don't know about you folks, but I've had enough of the terrible thunder, lightning and pouring rain storms we have been experiencing the last few days. We will probably pay for it with a hot, dry summer. Oh well, the weather is something no one can control, so have to take what comes; but don't have to like it! DONNA WALTER had reconstructive surgery on her shoulder, April 29 th , and when she called Sun. (May 20 th ) she mentioned having therapy several times weekly, and due to it being what they call “frozen”, can't move it. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as they must head north shortly. THANK YOU's go to C. WARREN CLEMENS for his extra donation when he sent his renewal, and to JOANNE BAXTER for her most generous donation sent when she renewed. Also to LOIS ARTLIP , who sent a $25 DONATION to C.N.Y.B.A. in memory of THAYLE PHAIR . I had a nice phone visit with Thayle's daughter, Roberta, recently; and she spoke about how much all the cards, notes, etc. helped her. She also asked if I knew of anyone who could use CANES, WALKERS, COMMODES as she has them from her Mother and Grandmother. I told her I would mention it in my next Ramblin'. She also has an electric HOSPITAL BED which was bought new about two years ago, which she would like to sell. Please contact Roberta at 315-255-3982 (evenings are best) if you are interested in any of these items. One never knows. I received the following address change and am sure mail from N.Y.S. would be most welcome— JOE LAMAY and SHERRI REESE —4115 E. Hwy 80, Somerset, KY. 42501. A routine scheduled heart angeogram showed no blockages for BRUCE CUTLER —we're glad to hear that, Bruce. Once again, when I received CARL LEEGE's renewal, he included a long, newsy letter; and assured me they haven't forgotten how to dance! They spent part of the winter in Mojave, CA. with Clare's son, Ed after spending Christmas with their daughter in Milton, FL. Her stage name is ARLENE RENE , and this year she won 1 st place and an Oscar at a big Gospel Show in Nashville. After the 9/11 incident, and having two sons in the military, Arlene wrote a song, and it became the No. 1 song in N.Y. City. Carl also reminisced about “old times” at former C.N.Y.B.A. events, including the one where I had been wrongly accused of getting our “Doodle De Do” fiddler, PETER HOYSIC drunk…after which he attempted to entertain! He also has quite a few older “BLUE GRASS UNLIMITED” magazines that he would like to donate to C.N.Y.B.A., and thought perhaps we could sell them and make a few dollars. Carl, I'll check into this and get in touch with you. WELCOME to new members NANCY BROWN of Chittenango, and STEVE COLEMAN of Auburn. When Steve joined, he mentioned about how much he enjoyed the BOB PAISLEY Show in Weedsport. Speaking of this, it was brought to my attention, thru e-mails, that some were very disappointed with what was written regarding the show by me in the May newsletter Ramblin'. What I said was my opinion, and I stand by it. However, since many of you were not at the May meeting, and the article “From the President” elsewhere in this newsletter doesn't mention whom he thanked, I shall try to mention who they were: Jacqui McCarthy for putting the concert together; Karl Paisley for the sound; Sue Hayden for taking charge of getting refreshments and to all who furnished them; Peter Carr for working the gate; Ray Crouch for bringing the C.N.Y.B.A. table sales; and to everyone who in anyway supported this event. (Perhaps I was in error by not doing these thank-yous last month, but as I've said over and over, it is YOUR NEWSLETTER , and felt those responsible for the show could and should have done so. Anyway, we do thank you, one and all.) Remember our PICNIC on SUN. JUNE 13 th , at MERCER PARK in Baldwinsville, an please pray for NO RAIN . I hope each of you have a fun-filled summer and looking forward to attending our 6 th ANNUAL APPLE VALLEY BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL , July 28 th -August 1 st . Be sure and order your ADVANCE TICKETS by sending a check made out to C.N.Y.B.A. to MARY ANNE BURNS , 1632 Stump Road, Marcellus, N.Y. 13108 before July 23 rd . Until our next visit, remember—an apology is the superglue of life—it can repair just about anything. (Helen)
