RAMBLIN’ with Helen...

Due to a very full newsletter of upcoming festivals, and other events, I will try and keep our monthly “visit” short but as informative as possible . Bill Light, our secretary wants you to know that our Constitution is on our website, and you can print copies off, BUT can not edit the document in any way. He also wants to thank Shirley Stevens for the great job she is doing with our website. I “ditto” that thanks also, Shirley.

Perry Cleveland emailed to tell me that Lee “Ike” Aikey , (a long-time member of Peggy and the Flint Creek Boys, and a former member of CNYBA) passed away on 3/15. Perry and Don Springer sang at his funeral service on 3/19.

Sharon Foultz is asking everyone to remember her daughter Melinda and her family in your prayers. Melinda does have cancer of the cervix, and is awaiting results of tests to determine treatment prior to a hysterectomy. Sharon , I know your request will be filled.

Carol McGinley emailed to ask me to let you all know she has our association in her prayers, that we find people to fill our offices and will be back among us as soon as she has a car back on the road. I ask you to please keep her in your prayers, as she still battles with the insurance co. regarding her comp. payments.

THANK YOU to Fred & Arreta Brown; Lou Steigerwald; Ellis Bradford; Charles & Marianne Haver; Linda & John Jackson, Dale & Audry Barnell and George Reese for your most generous donations included with your renewals. Also, thanks to James Hartman and George Melton for your books of stamps. It was brought to our attention at our March meeting that it is the dues, donations, and stamps like those mentioned above, that are keeping our Association financially solvent. Speaking of that folks, PLEASE check your ADDRESS LABEL – there are several outstanding renewals due, so please take a minute and sent them to me NOW… you don't have to cut out the application, just send a check, and if there are any changes of address, etc. put on a piece of paper, as I have all the information in my card file for each of you.

I had a nice long letter from George Reese when he sent his renewal, which was written 3 hrs. after having a cataract removed from his 2 nd eye. , and I could even read most of it! His “pickin session” is going good, and he reports that his “heart hardware” is still working. They have had about 5” of snow there, and he feels he moved at the right time, due to all the snow reports from Fulton this winter. Both he and Mabel send their best wishes to all who remember them.

Along with Joe Marshall's renewal was a nice note telling me that they celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary on Oct. 6 th – CONGRATULATIONS, and may you share many more together. He says he spends more time up north at his place, but sends his regards to all.

THANKS to Ellis Bradford, Dale Barnell, “Soc” Nellis, Shirley Miller, Mike Tirella and Henry and Helen Wells for your kind words regarding my efforts with our newsletter; they are greatly appreciated and makes the time spend worthwhile.

CONGRATULATIONS to Joy and Ray Crouch on the birth of a granddaughter on 3/20 – Emily Antionette, 7 lbs., 8 oz. and has lots of coal black hair. She sent me a picture, and yes Joy she is a cutie, and a possible “Miss America ” of the future.

Maryan VanDusen asked me to thank you all for your prayers for baby Serigo, and am so glad to report that he is doing better. He now weighs 12 lbs., 3 oz. and with Maryann's and John's care, he can only continue to grow.

Please note – on page 2, that Grandma Brown's Parlor show is now on the internet – www.wvoaradio.com – the same time as on the radio at WVOA FM –(103.9). Nancy is going to try and “hang in there” for a bit longer, but if donations aren't forthcoming, she is going to sign off in the near future. Please think about sending her a donation.

I had some emails and calls regarding Dee's Bluegrass Jamboree, Sunday morning on WSCP. I called Dee , and at the present time she is in “limbo” and goes in and answers the phones for the station. WSCP has been sold to a company out of California , and at the present time, all programs are done by satellite from there. When the station was sold, Dee was told that her program could still be aired on the am frequency, but later told, due to technical difficulties, that wasn't possible. Please keep her in your prayers, that another opportunity will open up for her to air her music.

Vernon Loucks called and said he and Olive are “hanging in there” and was so glad to hear that some folks have stepped forward to lead us in 2008. Our May newsletter will have more information regarding our festival, and remember it can only be a success if we all work and support it – CAN WE COUNT ON YOU? I hope so.

At our March meeting, it was discussed regarding where we might hold our meetings if the Cato Masonic Temple is sold. Due to the sever limits as to what the building can be used for, it is the opinion of the Lodge members that is will not be sold very soon, so for the future, we will continue to meet in Cato. The Masons will be serving an EASTER BREAKFAST on SUN., APRIL 8 th – so why not plan to bring the family, enjoy a good all-you-can-eat breakfast (they now had delicious homefries), enjoy some good music, and support those who have stepped forward to save CNYBA..I will be looking forward to seeing you all there.

In last months Ramblin, I told you I would have our new dues prices in this newsletter, and they can be found on page 1. Due to the postage increase, cost of supplies to do the copy for the newsletter, etc. it was felt this decision was necessary. Until your anniversary date of renewal, the current prices will be in effect. AVOID THE INCREASE…RENEW NOW and EVEN EARLY if you want to…I'll be glad to take them! Please take care, and will stop by for another visit in May.
