^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Our V.P. JACK BURNS has been “thinking overtime” to come up with an idea of how to get new members. At our Feb. meeting, he suggested the following: BRING a potential NEW MEMBER to a meeting, and IF THEY JOIN, THEY will be our “guest” at the NEXT MONTH’S Pancake Breakfast that precedes out meetings. THINK ABOUT THIS, and ACT.
A suggestion was made to try a “LETTERS TO THE EDITOR” page in our newsletter. If you have any ideas, comments-negative or positive, suggestions, etc., please send them to me by the 15th of each month, and space permitting, all letters will be printed. Names must appear on the letters, but will be omitted in newsletter if requested. Let’s hear from you.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Ramblin' with Helen
By Helen WeldonI was told when those black and white, foul-smelling critters make their appearance known, Spring is not far away. IF that is true, then by the “smell” that greeted me when I got my Sunday paper from the box this week, it should arrive any day now! Let’s hope so, as I have had enough of winter for this year. I was sorry to hear at our Feb. meeting that GEORGE REESE wasn’t “feeling up-to-par”. George, you were missed (especially by ERNIE TERPENING), and hope our card helped to brighten your day. It was so good to see NORM and SHARON VOLLES, CHUCK and SHARON FOULTZ, and PAT and GLORIA PARSNOW at the meeting, and was happy to meet SAMUEL ISHLER, a member whom I have corresponded with, but never met in person before. Folks, hope you enjoyed it enough, so we will see you again in March. During the meeting, a discussion was held regarding the fact that smoking was allowed, and it was decided to make the rooms “SMOKE-FREE” while we are using them. NO SMOKING SIGNS have been gotten, (thanks to Sharon Foultz and Bob Hayden), and will be posted in all rooms, along with the ashtrays disappearing. ED CAMPBELL, one of our most dedicated supporters, won the 50/50 and donated his share of $28. back to the Association. Thanks Ed! To all who gave me cards at the meeting, and some have already been used, thank you! Also, to FRED and ARRETA BROWN for the extra donation for postage included in their check for membership renewal, and to BONNIE WILSON for her additional 10 stamps to cover her newsletter mailing for the year, a big thank-you. Our V.P. JACK BURNS introduced BOB SIKES to those present, and he was given a round of applause for all the lumber he had donated for our stage at the festival grounds. Speaking of our V.P., elsewhere you will see the results of his “thinking” regarding membership, and hope several will try and “take-us-up” on our offer. While talking to MARY PHILLIPS, (Andy Pawlenko’s sister), about the upcoming benefit for ANDY and ARDY, she told me some, happy news--they are new Grandparents to HANNA ROSE who was born on Jan. 31st. Congratulations folks, and I know if you have a chance, she will be spoiled! (after all, that is what grandparents are for isn’t it?) I hope each of you will mark April 25th on your calendar and plan to attend this most deserving benefit. If you can’t, I urge you to send a donation (every $ will help) to MARY PHILLIPS, 368 County Rte. 85, Fulton, N.Y. 13069. (Please make checks payable to MARY PHILLIPS, and tell her you are a member of CNYBA.) I just got off the phone with Mary (2/24) and she told me that so far SMOKEY GREENE, SPARE CHANGE with DAVE NICHOLS (who has donated a guitar for a raffle) and BEAR ACKER with ACOUSTIC BLUE have volunteered their services to play, and she is sure more bands will also perform. Please keep Andy in your thoughts and prayers as he, along with his family take care of his “lifemate”, Ardy. I called LOREN TEACHOUT of the SALMON RIVER BOYS (2/24) to see how his Mom, EMMA was doing, and sad to say, not nearly as good as hoped for. There is going to be a consultation on the 25th to determine if she should be placed in long-term care. At the present time, she is at Hallmark Nursing Centre, 217 East Ave., Minoa, N.Y. 13116, and Loren said she looks forward to “mail call” every day, so please take a moment and send her a card. While visiting with him, I asked him how ALICE HILTON (Hugh’s widow) was, and he said doing pretty well. She had an auction, sold the farm, and has moved into the Springbrook Apts., there in Pulaski. He said his dad, REX is “keeping house”, but time means nothing to him, so he has his meals whenever he gets around to them!! Folks, that just goes to show you – even though they don’t like to admit it, we women are missed…I received an email from JOY CROUCH telling about her brother Bud, who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and they were able to remove only part of it. Being determined as terminal, he wants to come to the States to visit his family while he is still able, so please keep him in your prayers that this wish can come true. We are thinking of you too, JOY. I had a nice letter from HOMER REYNOLDS along with a very pretty Valentine, and he said to say “hi” to everyone, and asked me to keep him informed as to how THAYLE is doing. My daughter took me to visit her on the 16th, and even though it was one of her “bad days” (hadn’t been able to keep anything down for nearly 24 hours) she was so happy to see me, and sends her love to you all. She had the most beautiful roses from her family for Valentine’s Day, and looked “wonderful” in her pretty gown and make-up on. Visitors are welcome, so if you have a chance, stop-in for a new minutes and say HI. Since then, I’ve talked to her daughter Collette a couple of times, and her daughter Roberta, today (2/24) and they both report not much change—good and bad days, but are able to keep her comfortable. Please keep mail going to her. Thanks to the others who sent me Valentines, and I hope the ones I sent to shut-ins, out-of-state members, and officers helped to brighten their days. It’s always nice to get mail. Hope to see you all at our March 14th meeting, and until our next visit, remember – You are the only person on this earth who can use your ability…use it now by stepping forward to be our President or Vice President.
