RAMBLIN’ with Helen...

Well folks, the “deep freeze” has taken a rise, and the sun is shining as I write our visit on Saturday, Jan. 29 th. I’m sure many of you, like me, got plenty of snow and below normal temperatures all this past week—believe me NO JANUARY THAW!

I’ve received “updates” from Peg Miller on Jerry, and as things are now, he has an appointment with a surgeon on Feb. 3 rd regarding a hernia repair job. On Jan. 13 th, he went to doctor expecting to get a 2 nd nerve block but ended up having an ultra-sound which showed the hernia problem. With the aid of pain patches, he’s “hanging in there”. Please keep them both in your prayers and know a note now and then would be welcomed. They hope to be able to attend their grandson’s wedding on Feb. 5 th, and we all hope they can.

I had a call from Bruce Cutler regarding his upcoming trip on Feb. 28 th as the guest of Johnny K to attend an award ceremony on March 1 st at the DJ’s Hall of Fame in Nashville. From there, he is going to go and visit his Mother in Apache Junction, AZ until the middle of April. Sometime during that stay, the Greyhound bus company is flying him to a seminar regarding making their bus trips more convenient for handicapped people. Enjoy your trips and visit with your Mom, Bruce.

A big THANK-YOU to Jim and Ryan Meyer, Linda and John Jackson and Mary and Ted Phillips for their monetary donation and/or extra stamps with their renewals; both are definitely appreciated.

When Loren Teachout sent in the Salmon River Boys renewal, he included a newsy letter regarding his Mom’s continued comeback from her fall. She is back at Buckley Landing in N. Syracuse. I talked to Emma on Tues. the 25 th, and she said the progress is so slow but feels she is gaining some. The days are long and know mail or a phone call would help to brighten the day—Buckley Landing, #411A, 7430 Buckley Rd., N. Syracuse, NY 13212 (315 458-6057).

If any of you have tried reaching Jerry Miller at the phone number listed on front of our newsletter and got no answer, it is just as well as it was wrong. Thanks to Vernon Loucks for bringing this to my attention after he reached someone else with that number. Thanks Vernon, and again I’m asking each of you to check and see if the phone numbers are correct. I have a tendency to transpose figures so do need checking upon!

PLEASE check the front page of your newsletter, and if your date is circled, will be watching for your renewal in the mail. I know with all the Christmas mail, and now tax time, it’s easy to forget, but we want and need your continued support—Thanks.

I received an e-mail from Sharon Foultz on Sat. Jan. 29 th telling me that Chuck recently had hernia surgery—his first surgery ever, and is doing fine. He can’t drive for a week, and when asked about going ice fishing, the Doctor told him he could do so in May!

If you haven’t taken time to send Mary Carr a note lately, please do so. She doesn’t get out much, and I am sure mail would brighten her days. Keep her and Pete in your prayers too.

I had a forward e-mail from Bill Knowlton regarding Pat Parsnow’s recent trip and stay in the hospital, when he had a defibulator implanted in his chest. I talked to Gloria on Thurs., Jan. 27 th, and she said he is doing fine. He has been out snowshoeing, walking, etc. and time will determine the extent of his daily activities. We all know Pat, and I am sure he would enjoy “funny” cards and notes, so please take a minute and send one to 1544 Yuhas Drive, Sterling, NY 13156 (315 947-6032).

I’m so thankful that I had lots of items to fill the pages of our newsletter, as news is scarce this month. Donna Walter made her usual phone call asking about everyone and reports all is fine there. I am very concerned regarding the low attendance at our meetings, and hope you will shed some light on the problem of why. It is sad.

I ask you to PLEASE read and ACT on the WANTED AD that Betty Humphrey has is this newsletter. She has some wonderful ideas, and with some cooperation am sure it will make our CNYBA once again the Association it used to be. ACT NOW…and hope to see you all in Cato on Sun., March 13 th. Until our next visit, remember: The only people you should ever want to get “even” with are those who have helped you.
