Happy New Year to One and All

Meeting: Sun. Feb. 8th Folks, several new faces were seen enjoying the PANCAKE BREAKFAST and listening to the "MUSIC" in January, thanks in part, I'm sure to the advertising the CATO MASONIC LODGE is now doing for CNYBA in their publicity for their breakfast. Served from 8 to 1, it is an "ALL YOU CAN EAT" breakfast of pancakes, eggs, French toast, sausage, ham, toast, orange juice, milk, tea, coffee. ADULTS-$4.50, SENIORS=$4.00, CHILDREN (5-12)-$2.00 and FAMILY RATES are AVAILABLE. Plan to COME on FEB. 8th, enjoy a breakfast, music, and PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ATTEND OUR 2 PM MEETING --- Everyone is welcome ---

LOOK: A new local band "MAC CLAFIN and LAKE EFFECT" is one you'll want to see and hear if you get the chance! BAND MEMBERS include MAC, NEIL SHORTSLEF, along with CHUB and LOIS SHORTSLEF and others. They play BLUEGRASS GOSPEL, at many local churches, and they are very good(this according to the note John Peterson included when he sent his renewal.) With the band members, how can they help but be good, and I hope they will be given an opportunity to play for us real soon.

From Canyon County Bluegrass: Just a note to remind you all that the WINTER BLUEGRASS CONCERT is coming up on SAT., FEB. 14th at the WELLSBORO HS, featuring GARY FERGUSON and SALLY LOVE and their band, as well as THE LONESOME ROAD RAMBLERS. Information and tickets can be gotten from the website at : www.canyoncountrybluegrass.com. There will be a FREE afternoon jam session at the HS from 2-5 pm that Sat., therefore the regular Sunday jam session, normally held at the Middle School, is canceled for Feb. only. Come to the Sat. jam and stay for the concertIt's bound to be a GREAT MUSIC filled day and evening in Wellsboro. (Debbie Rubin, chairman)

Every last Sunday of the month, except Dec. An acoustic jam session is held at the main interpretative building of the WATERMAN CONSERVATION CENTER, Hilton Road, APALACCHIN, N.Y. from 1 to 4 pm. Musicians of all abilities are welcome. For directions, call: (607) 625-2221.

STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS for OFFICERS and BOARD MEMBERS It is most discouraging to have not received a single response to my request in the Dec. newsletter for volunteers for officers and board members. I am most grateful to WILLIAM LIGHT and PETER CARR, who have CONSENTED TO FILL THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICES for another year, if elected. To date, all whom I've asked to be president or vice-president have declined, so am again ASKING EACH OF YOU TO GIVE SOME SERIOUS THOUGHT, and DECIDE TO OFFER YOUR SERVICES for YOUR ASSOCIATION. NEIL SHORTSLEF and RAY CROUCH are also actively trying to fill the necessary offices, so PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT EITHER OF THEM. The proposed slate of officers MUST BE PUBLISHED in our MARCH NEWSLETTER, so time is running out. CAN WE COUNT ON YOU..I SURE HOPE SO! (We NEED a PRESIDENT, VICE-PRESIDENT and TWO BOARD MEMBERS for terms of 3 years.)

"Card of Thanks" (Folks, received this from Thayle too late for last month.) THANK YOU all very much for all the cards, notes, flowers in the past. Everything is deeply appreciated and I hope to be recovered soon. God Bless you all. Thayle

Many, many thanks to Helen Weldon and her daughter Betty Jane for doing the newsletter these past months. They are doing a super job AND I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. Her expert work is just wonderful. Thanks a million. Thayle

Ramblin' with Helen By Helen Weldon

How wonderful it was to wake-up to see the sun shining on Sun., Jan. 25th. I'm sure some of you had Cato mentioned on TV, along with Fulton, for the snow we've been blessed with the past couple of weeks. I, for one, have had enough; but am well aware more will arrive! My sincere THANKS to all of you who sent cards, called, came to my surprise 75th Birthday Open House, sent donations to both the 2004 OES Projects or Cancer Foundation. It was so gratifying to have my daughter be able to send $220 to the OES, and $170 to the Foundation, and know more has been sent, as have received acknowledgements from both. Over 90 came during the afternoon, and I tried to spend a little time with each. To those of you who took the time to make the long trip to be with me, THANK YOU so much. Now, I assure you I don't feel any older, just overwhelmed and amazed at the whole thing. I shall be forever indebted to so many that made it the best 75th birthday anyone could ever have had. Expressions of sympathy were sent to Sue and Bob Hayden on the passing of Sue's father Jim Sawtell in early Dec. He was a member of our association, and a loyal side-liner to our meetings, events, jam sessions, etc., before illness prevented him from doing so. I've enjoyed many telephone visits with Donna Walter since they went south in fact, she called just before I started to write my "visit" with you! Recently they took a trip to Nashville where they attended a Grand Ole Opry Show, which both enjoyed so much. I'm so glad Donna's many health problems doesn't prevent them from doing these things, and pray you folks can continue to do all you want for many years to come. Mike Hadden, a member who lives in Nepean, Ontario, Canada sent the CNYBA a very nice Christmas card along with his renewal, and expressed his "best wishes to the Officers and Members of CNYBA for a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, Happy New Year"Cheers. Speaking of renewals, you will find elsewhere a notice regarding a new band which includes our board member, Neil Shortslef: that comes highly recommended by John Peterson in a letter he included in his renewal. Thanks John for your kind words regarding the Ramblin, and especially for the 5 beautiful Sympathy and Get Well Cards you also included. They really came at the "right time", as was running low on both, and this weather hasn't cooperated for me to get to my favorite $1 store to replenish my supply. Folks, you can't beat the price or quality of the cards 2 for $1 at these stores, along with lots of other fantastic buys! I talked to Olive Loucks last week, and learned she is recuperating from a one-day surgery on her ear. It seems years ago she had a device inserted in her ear, and over the years, she has "shrunk", so they had to remove it, shorten it, and put it back in. Of course, this procedure caused her equilibrium to be off, not a good feeling. Hope you are back to "normal" dear friend. Elsewhere in the newsletter, is a questionnaire I hope all of you will read and act on by filling it out and sending it to the address given. On a separate piece of paper, if you have some thoughts, or comments regarding our organization, why you don't come into our meetings, how or what we can do to increase membership, etc., etc., PLEASE feel free to include that also. As I've stated elsewhere, it is very discouraging trying to get officers and knew it when I accepted the chairmanship of the Nominating Committee, but told myself I really felt some would "come thru" for me, and folks, haven't given up that thought yet! IF NOT FOR ME, THEN DO IT FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION. Now, for an update on our dear editor, Thayle. As you can see, I'm still "subbing" and will do so as long as necessary. When I got home on Jan. 20th, her voice was on my answering machine, and it is hard to describe the joy of hearing her. I called her, and we had a nice visit, and learned that she came home from the hospital the day before with Hospice Care, and that the "best medicine" possible was the arrival of her daughter from Alaska, who is here for an indefinite stay! Thayle is weak, and confined to her bed, but her appetite is back! I'm sure a call now and then would be most welcomed, and know MAIL will brighten her days. We all love you Thayle, and "hang-in there". BE SURE AND SEND ME YOUR RENEWALS IF YOUR LABEL IS HIGHLIGHTED. Until next time, remember: "If you think you're too small to make a difference, you haven't been in bed with a mosquito!"

Helen
