Membership Notes

We have received word that Carol Jeannin, long time member of CNYBA, died in December of 2014. We are so sorry to hear this and send our prayers to her family. Condolence cards can be sent to her husband, Bob Jeannin, at PO Box 1795, Zephyr Hills, FL 33539-1795

Henry "Hank" Wells, is at home recovering from recent surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. He and his wife, Helen, have been frequent participants at many CNYBA events for many years. Hank plays old time fiddle and banjo. Helen plays a DeNeve resonator guitar. They are a beloved couple!

Cards can be sent to Henry Wells at 7302 E. Keeney Rd, Cuyler NY 13158.

Many CNYBA members know Peter McDonald. A founding member of the Finger Lakes Bluegrass Association, Peter also maintained membership in the CNYBA. His band, featuring his daughter, Rebecca Colleen, is the host band of the Brantling Bluegrass Festival and has often played at CNY events. From Mike Garlock of the Brantling Bluegrass Festival and dear friend of Peter McDonald, comes the following note:

For those who don't know, Peter McDonald was diagnosed with late-stage Carcinoid Cancer a few months ago, and his health has deteriorated rather quickly. He's been in a wheelchair for the last several weeks and hasn't been able to go to many music events, but would still love to see all of his friends!
We thought one big event would be easier to schedule, and hope you'll come with instruments in hand.

July 26, 2015
2 pm
Dewey's Party House
67 Auburn Rd.
Seneca Falls, NY 13148
There will be a buffet from 3-5 pm!

The cost is $20/person at the door, $5 for kids 12 and under (to cover the cost of the buffet), there will also be drinks available for purchase from the venue. This isn't necessarily a fund-raiser, but if you'd like to help offset some of Peter's medical costs, we'll have a box for donations at the door.

There will be bands playing throughout the event, and also an hour scheduled for open mic! We'll have time slots available to sign up for at the event, and of course, there's plenty of opportunity to jam!

Please RSVP by July 15, so we know how many people to expect for the buffet. Feel free to invite anyone I may have missed, we just ask that they RSVP as well so we can give an approximate headcount to the venue. Email Mike Garlock at

If you can't make the event but would still like to send Peter a note, the address is:
P.O. Box 802,
Seneca Falls, NY  13148

A Celebration of Life for Joy Crouch will be held on Thursday, July 2 at 11 am, at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2819 County Route 45, Fulton NY, with Rev. Shawn Porter officiating. There will be no calling hours.

From her obituary: "She loved to share her singing and songwriting with the public and she had been a musical enjoyment to many. Mrs. Crouch is survived by her husband of 32 years Raymond C. Crouch of Fulton; children: David Gray of Oswego, Timothy Gray of Oswego, Veronica Gray of Oswego and Rose Angela Dupree of Pulaski, her siblings: Barbara Chvola, Cheryl Prichard and Gary Jodway all of Oswego; and seven stepchildren, one of whom, Cynthia (Crouch) Bouffard, gave Joy loving and tender care during her final days. Mrs. Crouch is also survived by eight grandchildren. She considered them to be the bright lights in her life."
For years now, long time CNYBA member, Joy Crouch has struggled with various health problems with grace, hope, strength and dignity. On June 19, 2015, she lost her battle but is now in the loving arms of her Lord. Our hearts go out to her family and especially her husband, Ray Crouch.
Condolences may be sent to Ray at 3105 County Route 45, Fulton, NY 13069

If you have memories of Joy that you'd like to share with our other CNYBA sisters and brothers, please email and we'll put them in the next newsletter.
